Proposal

Proposal

In this unit I plan on making a room in 3d studio max using the techniques we have learnt in the tutorial lessons leading up to our project.
When I was told I had to create a room I had many ideas but I had three that stuck in my head mainly due to the fact that they would be fun to make and look visually pleasing to me once I had finished them, these ideas were:

1)     Skate Park
2)     Asylum
3)     Hotel Lobby (modern/futuristic)

After weighing up the pros and cons of all 3 different rooms I chose to go with the hotel and make it futuristic as this will allow me to be able to use my imagination for creating things such as floating desk etc.
I was influenced to do this room by the website http://www.thecoolhunter.co.uk/ this website shows the user all different modern looking buildings.
I am going to be using techniques such as box modelling and spline modelling. I will be using splines mainly for the freedom of shapes you can create with them, I will also be using methods such as bevel, extrude, inset etc.
The problems I could face with this product is the lighting because it is futuristic I am going to be using lots of individual lights for objects stuck on walls, bottoms of chair etc. Another problem I am going to have is possibly the amount of time we have to finish the project.

3D Studio Max - Lighting Effects - Atmosphere Creating

3d Studio Max – Scene Lighting

In today’s lesson we was tought how certain lighting affects certain moods; we looked at numerous different examples including: Horror, Fantasy and Western. We was then asked to recreate these scenes in 3dsmax however the resources made available were not backwards compatible and this caused a problem for me as I had to make the models myself which cost me some valuable time, with that being said once we had the 3dsmax scene set up we then had to consider the following things:

Light intensity: this gave a feel to the scene for example in a horror scene the lighting would be very minimal and possibly coming from one source such as a torch

Light Colour: light colour would help give a sense of time and a certain feel to the scene for example if you was to create a scene in the snow where everything is very cold a blue light would be used because blue gives off a feel off being cold where as if you was doing a desert scene for a western the light colour would be orange because the main light source would be the sun and deserts give off a warm feeling.

Light Shadow: the shadows played a big part in the scene and are very important to pay attention to because unless there a four different light sources from four different directions only one light will cast a shadow.

Light Placement: the placement was used to create the shadows if it was mid day the shadows would be shorter if it was earlier or later the shadows would be longer.

Front/Back Light: We used a front and back light to make our objects visible for example if we had a sign and we placed a light behind it we would not see any of the details on the front therefore if we place a light in front of it at a lower intensity we would be able to see the front details.

* I INTENDED ON USING FOG, HOWEVER THIS DID NOT GIVE THE DESIRED EFFECT I WAS GOING AFTER!*
My Created Scene –

Personal Opinion on this scene – I feel that I needed to add a bit more atmosphere and make it darker due to the fact that it looks to light and the blue is too light on the hint these are things I will take into consideration for my final project
