Review of the unit.

Now the unit has came to an end i can say that i have enjoyed 3d modelling a lot and would not mind a career in this field of work, although it is extremely time consuming it is always good to see your final render looking great.
In this review i am going to talk about the following:

What I am pleased and not so pleased with.
Any Improvements and what would I like to add to it.
Comparison.

The thing i am most pleased with in this unit is the atmosphere the basic lighting gives the final render, although i used basic lighting and did nothing extremely special or near professional standard with them i still feel that it looks good enough to present and it has met my proposal. I am also pleased with the stairs that i have created, the stairs were one of the more difficult elements to model as i had to keep re-adjusting the spindles and make them connect at each point and look aligned, so when i finished these i felt proud of myself and happy with the result. on the other hand i am not so pleased with my walls, due to the fact that during the modeling process i must of done something wrong and it would not allow me to add a basic texture. Another element i am not happy with is the pillar in the middle It looks too basic and is not up to standard with the rest of my project.

I feel that i could make a number of improvements as this was my first time working in 3d modeling, One of the main things i could improve on is the techniques i use i seemed to use extremely long ways to do a simple thing, and with more experience i will be able to find extremely efficient ways and techniques of modeling. Also i would like to improve the details of all the objects for example on the marble desk/pot model i would like to be able to add little marks into it such as chips and cracks etc. After finishing the modeling i got a sudden burst of ideas of basic things i could of put in but didn't, these are as followed:
  • Light Switch
  • Bins
  • Plugs
  • Newspapers on the tables
so after i had this burst of ideas i felt some what stupid because they are basic elements of a building, how ever i feel that i have not really took anything away from my final grade no matter what it may be.
i would also like to add a chandelier as this would make my hotel lobby look very elegant, but i would not just model a basic traditional chandelier it would be a modern one.

After looking at professional pieces of work i feel that for a beginner i have not done that bad as you can be able to tell what i have modelled how ever, it is not of a high enough quality to be called professional for example if you look at the following image i found on the Internet it looks extremely life like, there is amazing lighting , textures and modelling, where as mine looks to computer generated, the textures do not all fit perfectly and the models are not as detailed as his/hers although the person who modelled this is probably extremely experienced i feel that comparing my work to his/hers gives me an idea of what i need to be working towards next time i do a 3d scene.

My Final Renders:

Personal Comments:
after looking at the final renders i found that i had not put in a roof and this has now been added.

My use of Cameras and Lights.

In my final project i used a number of lights and cameras.

the cameras were used to give a better vision of the models, and add depth of feild.

the lights were used to add shaddows and add atmoshpere to the scene, how ever when i tried to use two for some wall lights i created they did not work.

Final Post.

Final Lesson Review

In todays final lesson I had to finish up my project with numerous renders, However, The renders as of the moment are taking a long time ! but this shall not be a problem i will just come back into this post and add the ones i didnt capture in.

Todays lesson was rather productive i got alot of things modelled that needed to be done such as the spindles, the door, the wall lights and i needed to sort out some of the materials and alignment of the objects, i also went in and named most of my objects for future purposes.

I feel that i made a great amount of progress today , the only downfall of today is that i spent most of my time waiting for my models to render, and this wasted valuable time.

Update - Modelling of the: Chairs, Table, Computer Screen, Spindles on the stairs, Banister.

Whilst modelling in this unit i have had to be able to model in a variety of ways such as: box modeling, loft etc. I have used many techniques to create a number of my objects I will be covering a set few int he following:

For the Chairs i used the technique lathe in order to create what holds the seat up, as for the seat itself i used two spheres and the boolen tool.

The table was extremely simple i created a box, inseted the legs by a extremely small amount because i had in mind how i wanted it to look as i had previously seen the way i wanted it in ikea and unfortunatly did not get a picture, once the legs were done i cut out a square in the top and made this see through to give the illusion of glass.

For the computer screen i used a lot of bevel, i created a box and then went in to line mode, and selected certain lines and positioned them as i seen fit, once this was done i then went into poly mode and selected the part i needed to edit, i used Bevels, Extrudes, Insets etc.

The spindles on the stairs were pretty tricky to make in order to make these i used the 'get shape' method, and created numerous shapes that would give the spindle the shape i wanted , so the shape went from 2d to 3d.

For the banister on teh stairs i created a long rectangle with around about 8 or 10 segments i then selected the top polygins and used soft selection to give it some sort of roundness.

TO DO LIST:

DOOR.
RUG.
WALL LIGHTS.
