Proposal
The brief we have been given is to create a 3d environment and emphasize on the texturing and lighting side of the project rather than having super accurate models for example to create a window we will use an opacity map instead of cutting a hole out of the geometry.
I am going to be making a environment for a game, the game will be set in a foreign country where there is plenty of sunlight and run down buildings The inspiration came from a massive online multiplayer game on the pc called counter strike source where the objective of the game is to eliminate all terrorist threats who are played by other people in the world. The game has a very open plan and not much happening in it, this is where I am going to be unique and make a medium sized environment with more objects that the player can hide behind, climb on, see through etc. I will be trying to use at least 3 custom home made textures. The reason I have chose to do something like a game map is because in a previous unit I tried to go for a photorealistic look and by doing that everything has to be exact and perfect where as in a game there is no rules and you can be as creative as you like.
My target audience will be the more technical gamers although I will be keeping in mind people who enjoy online gaming.
I will be keeping track of my progress and my updates via a blog which can be found at http://antonycleary3ddesign.blogspot.com/ . By doing this it will be a lot easier for me to update regularly.
I could be facing numerous problems with in the progress such as sourcing the textures needed and making sure that I am eligible to use them, also the computers that we use are not the greatest spec for 3d how ever if I take it steady I should be ok.
I will need to acquire numerous textures to do this I will be going into forums such as deviant art and sxc.hu and if I find one I want to use I will ask the owner permission to use it. I will also be making some of my own textures from materials at home such as flooring, plaster etc.
The tasks that are next are as followed:
Research
Sketchbook
Annotate Sketchbook
Gather resources
Begin to model.
